Learn the technique of traditional Japanese Sashiko. You could create a small wall hanging with your samples or incorporate them as pockets in a jacket.

Traditionally indigo fabric is used for sashiko , but you may use any plain colour.

Sashiko thread is usually cream but any colour may be used.

Requirements:

To transfer the Sashiko designs to your fabric, there are several methods. Choose your preferred method and bring appropriate requirements to class.

1. Tracing wheel* or biro with dressmakers carbon paper (Clover Chacopy is good)

2. Lightbox and white or yellow marking pencil (lightboxes will be available for use)

3. Nylon net. Trace the design with felt pen onto net and transfer with fabric marker to the fabric.

Masking tape

½ m fabric (traditionally indigo blue) or cut 2 or more 10” which could become pockets in a jacket.

Cream sashiko thread or No. 8 perle cotton

Sashiko needles or assorted darning needles (not too thick), or No. 8 crewel with large eye.

Scissors

Small ruler for ruling short lines

Rotary cutter, ruler, mat

*Lynn will bring some tracing wheels if you don’t already have one
