Freeform Knitting and Crochet

Examples only of what you can achieve with these techniques

Discover your own crochet renaissance, new ways of expressing yourself with hook, needles and fibre. In this workshop you will be gently encouraged to let your creative spirit soar way outside your comfort zone!

You may work with extravagantly gorgeous yarns and threads, plain yarns, strips of fabric, raffia, or a combination of all of those! The choice is yours!

You will learn several special crochet stitches that will help you add texture to your fabric. Work in total freedom without the restrictions of linear patterns, or crochet rules. Combine crochet with knitting, embroidery, beads or any other medium you care to use.

Level of skill/experience:

You must be reasonably fluent with the basic processes of making crochet chains, plus single and double crochet stitches, trebles etc. as well as casting on and off, knit and purl stitches.

Requirements:

Bring a selection of yarns in your choice of colourway, in as many textures and thicknesses as possible. Think “thin, heavy, gnarly, bobbly, smooth, hairy, sleek, slippery, chunky, shiny, metallic” etc.

If you prefer to just learn the techniques and work on a project at home then you may use any yarns at all, however most people do like to start a project during the workshop hence the suggestion to bring a choice of colour way.

Hooks: 4.00mm to 5.00mm

Knitting needles: 4.5mm to 6.00mm

Scissors, pen and notebook
