A few people have been asking about public transport to Kiama for the retreat next year.
Kiama has a fantastic train service, well for a country town it is fantastic. A train (note the lack of an s-there is only one train) arrives once every hour during peak time and once every two hours during non peak times, except after midnight, then it is once every four hours. That explains why EVERYONE who goes to the New Year's Eve fireworks all catch the same train home.
If you are flying in then you will catch the train to Wolli Creek and then change trains. It is best to take the first train heading south and change at Sutherland. There are a number of Kiama trains that don't stop at Wolli Creek and so it is quicker by about two hours to go to Sutherland to pick up a connecting train.
The train trip from Sydney to Kiama cannot be beaten for views. Once you leave the Sydney area you will have the most breathtaking views of the sea and the escarpment. Sit on the left hand side of the train facing forward for the best views.
Now for the important question....last time I checked, with the new fares it is about $8 for those without a concession or pension and $2.50 for those who do.
